2012

Spring 2012 there were 7 educational concerts in central venues for 3,000+ elementary and middle school students in Kershaw County, SC
A newly commissioned piece, "Journey to Mars," composed by Mary Lee Taylor Kinosian was the centerpiece of the program that taught physical and natural science concepts guided by SC State Dept. of Education "Standards." The program was authorized by District Superintendent Dr. Frank Morgan; administered by Director of Curriculum and Instruction Mr. Timothy Hopkins and curriculum designer Dr. Lisa Shannon.  The program depicted, in music and visuals, the development, launching, space voyage and landing of the robotic rover on Mars. Concerts included NASA videos, PowerPoint slides, teaching script and "meet the composer" conversations.

This concert program is available for presentation in any regional school on an independent contract basis with The Trio.  THERE ARE 7 VARIED AND COMPLETELY ORIGINAL PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO INDEPENDENT EDUCATION CONTRACTORS ANYWHERE.   ALL PROGRAMS ARE NEW MUSIC PIECES SUITABLE FOR GENERAL AUDIENCE CONCERT  PROGRAMS.

SHANDON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (Columbia, SC) CONCERT SERIES, a venerable and respected chamber music venue, presented The Trio in concert on Friday evening April 20, 2012.  The concert was received with standing ovations from a musically knowledgeable and discerning audience.  An all Taylor Kinosian program, that was a journey through 400 years of European and American musical styles.  The music also opens paths into the future of American music.

THE ORIGINAL PROGRAM FOR 2012/13 HAS BEEN PLANNED AND IS IN DEVELOPMENT.  "STRUM ME A STORY:  A CELEBRATION OF AMERICAN FOLKLORE" will arise from folktales, legends, myths and drama at the 4th and 5th grade level.  Our rich and diverse American heritages will be celebrated in a new music commission.  Its creative inspiration will specifically arise from the African-american "Brer Rabbit trickster tales, Native American Borrequita and Coyote fables, European-american PecosBill/Davy Crocket/Sally Thunder/Mike Fink western folktales and/or Army of the Dead (Civil War ghost legend) or some other ghost story like Headless Horseman."  South Carolina media teacher of the year, Cindy Symonds, supplied the creative impetus for this powerfully inspiring musical venture. THE SERIES OF NEW EDUCATION CONCERTS WILL BE PRESENTED WINTER/EARLY SPRING.  Kershaw County School District concert dates, venues and times to be announced.

THE UPTON TRIO LOOKS FORWARD TO LATE JANUARY/EARLY FEBRUARY 2013, (exact date, time and price to be announced) WHEN IT WILL PARTNER WITH LOCAL PRICE HOUSE COMMISSION LEADERSHIP IN A FUNDRAISING CONCERT OF CLASSICAL CHAMBER AND GOSPEL MUSIC.  THE PROGRAM WILL BE PRESENTED IN WOOD AUDITORIUM, THE MAINSTAGE OF THE FINE ARTS CENTER OF KERSHAW COUNTY IN CAMDEN, SC.

OTHER GENERAL AUDIENCE CONCERTS IN THE REGION WILL BE ANNOUNCED AS THEY ARE SCHEDULED.

THE UPTON TRIO IS PLANNING A TOUR OF THE NORTHERN MIDWEST IN SUMMER 2013.  Venues will be in Southwest Michigan and Northern Indiana.  Dates to be announced.
